LANGSTROTH HIVE

Langstroth Bee hives encompass square boxes of identical width and length (but with different depths).

This allows vertical stacking. Frames set within the hive provide a location for comb building.

Three primary depths decide what size frames to apply:

• Deep box for the brood and to store food for bees.

• Medium packing box (additionally referred to as supers  for brood or honey to be harvested.

• Shallow supers best for honey to be harvested. Langstroth hives make use of bee area in order that frames are neither glued collectively nor packed with comb joining the frames.
