MUCUNA (VELVET BEANS)

Mucuna, also known as the Velvet Bean, is a powerful tool in conservation agriculture and is widely valued as an effective cover crop. Farmers can choose between two main seed varieties: the black and Brown seed types.

The Brown mucuna bean is currently available.

As a ground cover, Mucuna is exceptional at suppressing weed growth. Its rapid growth creates a dense canopy that covers the soil, reducing weed competition for sunlight, space, moisture, and essential nutrients needed by crops.

The versatility of Mucuna allows it to fit easily into different farming systems. It can be grown in rotation with food crops or used as an intercrop to help reduce weed infestation while improving overall farm productivity.

For farmers seeking to improve soil health and enhance sustainable farming practices, Mucuna seeds are available for purchase, with convenient delivery services across Kenya.
